How to Keep Your Air Conditioner Running Well Through the Fall

August 24, 2016

Your air conditioner has worked hard this summer and we still have more hot weather to go. Just because the date on the calendar has changed over to fall doesn’t mean you’re done with your AC for the season. Keeping up with annual AC maintenance, while also following a handful of other tricks, can help you maintain your air conditioner while remaining cozy too.

Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit

Debris can pile up around your outside unit, specifically during the fall. When the time comes to rake up the leaves in your yard, be sure to rake up the leaves and debris around your air conditioner. Debris can inhibit air flow, causing your system to work harder and wear down faster. We want your air conditioner to last as long as it was designed to.

Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat

Set your thermostat at the highest temperature you can while still remaining comfortable. Whenever possible, take advantage of supplemental cooling methods such as fans. The lower you set your thermostat, the harder your system will have to work to get to that temperature. You may think shutting off your unit completely will save on energy and help your system, but that makes more work for it to make up when you switch it back on. It will have to work harder for a longer amount of time, which is something else that could lead to premature system failure.

Keep Up With AC Maintenance

Keeping a well-maintained system with normal, annual AC maintenance is so critical. Our experts will look at your air conditioner thoroughly and make sure the electric is working properly, the coils and filters are clean and so much more.
